In her Weather Series, Kim Dembrosky captures daily temperature and precipitation conditions across several major cities using coloured tiles. Her work demonstrates the power of utilizing scientific data to differentiate climate conditions using colour.
“The works in this album are a form of Conceptual Art, alternatively classified as Data Art or Process Art, and are inspired by the Pattern and Decoration Movement.
Made of hand painted ceramic tiles, each tile represents one day out of a full year. Each tile is color-coded to show the daily high and low temperatures, as measured by a single weather station in a specific location. After the painted tiles are mounted on a board, smaller glass tiles are added on top to represent days of precipitation. This process is slow, deliberate, and contemplative in nature. The resulting image is not determined beforehand, but rather revealed through the process of creation.” – Kim Dembrosky
