Dear ATS Community,
We speak the names of Vincent Chin, Vicha Ratanapakdee, Soon Chung Park, Hyun Jung Grant, Sun Cha Kim, Yong Yue, Xiaojie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Delaina Ashley Yaun González, Paul Andre Michels, and the countless other individuals who have been murdered out of anti-Asian hate. There have been 3,800 documented racially motivated attacks against Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Canada has a higher number of reported hate crimes per capita than the U.S., with anti-Asian hate crimes in Vancouver rising by 717% in just one year.
These overt attacks only add to a long history of discrimination, oppression, and racism against Asians in North America. We cannot continue to overlook this long-standing racism and stereotyping. We must support each other and continue our own anti-racism work to Stop Asian Hate and Stop White Terrorism.
Art the Science is in solidarity with the Asian community. As part of an ongoing conscientious effort to highlight and celebrate BIPOC and AAPI, we will uplift the work of Asian creatives and scientists on our social media and blog platforms. We will continue our own anti-racist learning as individuals and as an organization, and we encourage our community to do the same.
