Name: Julia Krolik
Which came first in your life, the science or the art?
The art. Before I knew about scientific concepts, I knew how to colour. Especially outside the lines.
Which sciences relate to your art practice?
All of them. I am open to working with any scientific disciplines. So far, I have worked on projects involving computer science, microbiology, geography and psychology. I am working on a hydrogeology project next.
What do you use to create your artworks?
Anything. I do not limit myself here. I am happy to draw, use new media, create an audio composition or dance. Whatever I feel is the best approach for the specific project, I will spend time learning the skills required to complete the vision. To me, it’s all about the final vision.
Artwork/Exhibition you are most proud of:
The last instalment of the Decomposing Pianos ( an experimental music project I started with Owen Fernley ) trilogy titled Noise of the Modern Day World. It has six sections and section five – Tools of Enchantment is my favourite work. There was a moment where I stood still, completely captivated by the audio, I closed my eyes for a brief moment. During that moment the last three years of my life flashed and all of the various efforts that were required to create the whole trilogy. Eyes closed, I knew it was all about to end.
It was bittersweet and beautiful.
